Canada notes there are credible allegations against Silva

Canada today noted that there are credible allegations of gross human rights violations against Lieutenant-General Shavendra Silva who was appointed as the Commander of the Sri Lankan Army.

The Canadian High Commission in Colombo said that Canada is deeply concerned by Lt. Gen Silva’s appointment as Army Commander in Sri Lanka despite credible allegations of gross human rights violations against him during the war.

“His appointment undermines reconciliation and accountability efforts,” the High Commission said
