Government doctors staged an islandwide one-day token strike today over several demands.

The strike launched by the Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) was against the Free Trade Agreement between Singapore and Sri Lanka as well as over issued related to the salary increments and allowances for doctors and other issues.

The strike however did not affect emergency services or operations at the Maharagama cancer hospital.
