The main Poson celebration would be held centered around Anuradhapura where about a million devotees are expected. He said that all facilities have been provided for the convenience of these devotees. Prime Minister Wickremesinghe noted that while many of the Vesak pandols and decorations could not be put on display due to the situation in the country at the time, he said that all these pandols and decorations would be displayed during the Poson festival.
The Prime Minister said that special security arrangements have been put in place to ensure the safety of the devotees during the Poson season. Internal and Home Affairs and Provincial Councils and Local Government Minister Vajira Abeywardena said that all Divisional Secretaries have been instructed to organise All Night Pirith on June 13 followed by alms for the Maha Sangha. He also said that all government buildings would be illuminated and decorated in view of the Poson Week from June 10 to the 16.
Meanwhile, Education Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam said that spiritual programmes would be organized in schools, adding that the circular in this regard would be issued today (06). He further noted a Seela programme would be held at Temple Trees on June 14 with the participation of school children. Further, the Maharagama Poson Zone is organized by the Youth Council and youth from around the country are expected participate in the festivities
