SLT-MOBITEL provides relief to COVID-19 affected Pollebadda Indigenous communities in Ampara’s Maha Oya division

SLT-MOBITEL, the National ICT, Telecommunications and Mobile Services Provider, has stepped forward
to provide relief to the Pollebadda Indigenous communities in Ampara’s Maha Oya Divisional
Secretariat, affected due to COVID-19 restrictions, with dry rations recently.
SLT-MOBITEL distributed 285 packs containing essential items providing a lifeline to over 285 families
who were facing severe hardships due to their inability in obtaining daily needs. Providing all support
towards this humane endeavor were the officials from the Ampara and Maha Oya Divisional
Secretariats, especially the assistance of D.M.L. Bandaranayake, District Secretary Ampara and Maha
Oya Additional District Secretary.
In addition, SLT-MOBITEL introduced a meritorious initiative themed ‘Daana Paaramitha’ to help
communities that were affected due to COVID 19. Both Pre-Paid and Post-Paid customers can simply
donate via SMS by simply typing ‘YES’ and sending it to 255. For every SMS Rs. 50 will be charged and in
return, SLT-MOBITEL will match all public donations and will double the funds collected. The funds
collected will be used to distribute dry rations, medical supplies and relief kits to Sri Lankan communities
in distress.
To-date, SLT-MOBITEL has engaged in a series of programmes to provide relief and assistance to all
communities due to the challenging times faced as a result of the pandemic. SLT-MOBITEL has been
providing support to the front liners in the health services, donating medical equipment and personal
protective equipment, ensuring comprehensive connectivity to the quarantine centers and providing
uninterrupted services to government and private institutions affirming its commitment to the nation.
