In a recent development, the Sri Lanka Police has taken action to suspend the service of a Katana Police Sergeant associated with the intelligence unit. The suspension comes as a result of allegations of neglecting his duty during the devastating Easter Sunday terror attacks in 2019.
The Police Media Unit has stated that this significant move, was executed in compliance with a directive issued by the Inspector General of Police (IGP). After a preliminary investigation into the matter, the officer in question was presented with a charge sheet containing 12 charges.
The IGP has ordered the dismissal of the said Sergeant after the officer admitted to the charges brought against him. This suspension was ordered after nearly 3 years since the attack and this is one of the first officers to be suspended in relation to the Easter Sunday Attack after such a time lag.
