Former Minister Keheliya Rambukwella today insisted that he never defended the LTTE through a statement he made to the media.
Rambukwella was on Friday quouted as saying the opposition was being more selfish than the LTTE. He had said that soon after the 2004 tsunami the LTTE allowed troops to enter rebel held areas to assist the civilians and did not open fire.
“To clarify my latest statement, during the ’04 tsunami crisis, even the LTTE allowed access to our troops for relief work. This by no means justifies support for arguably the most ruthless terrorist org. It betrays the devalued moral compass of the opposition,” the former Minister tweeted today.
He said that it was sad to see members of the free media reporting biased, partial news which did not supplement the full story.
