New laws will be introduced to include a National education policy, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said today.
He said that most countries have an education policy and Sri Lanka also needs one to raise the standards of education in the country.
Speaking at an event at Temple Trees today, the Prime Minister said that through the 13th Amendment to the Constitution guidelines were introduced on recruiting teachers to schools.
However he says the guidelines are not being followed and so the Constitution is being violated.
Wickremesinghe said that he has advised the Education Ministry to propose new laws which will include a National education policy to ensure only suitable teachers are recruited to schools.
The new laws will also ensure the entire education system is on par with the best in other countries.
