Malwathu Chief Prelate decides not to meet politicians

The Chief Prelate of the Malwathu Chapter the Most Venerable Thibbatuwawe Sri Siddhartha Sumangala Thera has decided not to allow any politician to meet him.

The decision was taken due to the fact that so far no one has responded favourably to the letter submitted to the President, the Prime Minister and the party leaders, which consists of six proposals including the formation of an Interim Government to save the country from the crisis.

Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa also couldn’t meet the     Chief Incumbent when he (Sajth) arrived in Kandy recently to present the document containing the proposals of the Samagi Jana Balawega for the 21st Amendment to the Constitution to the Chief Prelates.

As he too was not allowed to visit the Malwatte Chief Prelate he had to visit only the Asgiriya Chief Prelate and present the relevant document.

A group of backbenchers of the Sri Lanka People’s Front (SLPP) also visited the Malwatte Chief Prelate on April 29 and requested permission to submit a document containing their proposals regarding the crisis.

The Mahanayake Theras of the three Chapters have decided to convene the leaders of all parties represented in Parliament to discuss the situation.
