Sunshine Holdings reinforces Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Mandate

Aims to further elevate workplace safety standards and measures for its 1700+ employees

Diversified conglomerate Sunshine Holdings PLC (CSE: SUN) announced that the Group has further strengthened its Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) mandate. The announcement was made recently at the Sunshine Safety Forum, further underscoring the importance of safety, health, and environmental stewardship as integral components of Sunshine Holdings’ operational philosophy. Chief Guest Dr. Champika Amarasinghe, Director General of the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), Group CEO Shyam Sathasivam, Sunshine Holdings senior leadership, and employees attended the Sunshine Safety Forum.

Today, an EHS mandate plays a crucial role in enabling organisations to ensure the well-being of employees, minimise environmental impact, and promote a culture of safety and responsibility. Furthermore, it protects employees from workplace hazards and enhances productivity, reduces costs associated with accidents, and fosters a sustainable operational environment. In such a context, Sunshine Holdings reaffirms its commitment to responsible business practices by revamping this mandate to create a safe and responsible work environment. The EHS mandate has introduced several modern occupational safety and health standards and practices for its 1700+ employees.

Group Chief Executive Officer Shyam Sathasivam expressed his enthusiasm about the new mandate. “At Sunshine Holdings, we believe that a safe and healthy work environment is fundamental to our success. Our revamped EHS mandate is a testament to our commitment to our employees’ well-being and our responsibility towards environmental sustainability. Together, we are advancing towards a culture of safety and well-being.”

During the Sunshine Safety Forum, the new EHS logo and the safety policy were unveiled, symbolising the company’s dedication to fostering a culture of vigilance and responsibility in the workplace. The event also recognised the dedicated safety, fire, and first-aid teams representing each group company, which will oversee the implementation and adherence to the new EHS protocols. Each team was handed over with safety packs to showcase their crucial role in maintaining a safe workplace environment.

Commending Sunshine for its proactive approach to prioritising occupational safety and health, Dr. Champika Amarasinghe said, “The commitment shown by Sunshine Holdings to further reinforce its EHS principles is exemplary. The mandate, which has been updated with a set of new safety policies, sets a benchmark, demonstrating that prioritising employee health and safety can go hand in hand with achieving business objectives. Furthermore, Sunshine Holdings’ approach is a model for creating resilient and sustainable business practices, ultimately contributing to long-term operational excellence and stakeholder trust.”
