Drop Me Officially Launches in Kandy — A New Era in Mobility Solutions for Sri Lanka. The platform empowers drivers and passengers across the island
Drop Me (Pvt) Ltd, a Sri Lankan mobility technology company, has officially launched its innovative ride-hailing platform to the public from Kandy, marking a major milestone in the nation’s transportation evolution.
The launch event took place at the Kandy City Centre (KCC) and was attended by Hon. Dr. Prasanna Gunasena, Deputy Minister of Transport and Highways; Hon. Chathuranga Abeysinghe, Deputy Minister of Industry and Entrepreneurship Development; Professor Sarath Abeykoon, Governor of the Central Province; Mr. Thusitha Wijayasena, Chairman of Kandy City Centre (KCC); and several other distinguished guests representing both government and private sector organizations.
The leadership team of Drop Me, headed by Mr. M.S.A. Muneer, Founder and Chairman, welcomed the dignitaries who visited the Drop Me promotional booth during the KCC October Festival and commended the initiative for its forward-thinking model designed to benefit both drivers and passengers.
A Transformative Approach to Mobility
“Drop Me” introduces a commission-free mobility model, allowing drivers to retain 100% of their earnings while paying only a small fixed monthly subscription. This approach eliminates daily or per-ride deductions, giving drivers greater financial independence and a fairer business environment.
According to Chairman M.S.A. Muneer, the vision behind Drop Me is to create a platform that promotes equality, transparency, and empowerment in transportation.
“Our mission is to build a mobility ecosystem that supports both the driver and the passenger,” said Mr. Muneer. “We are not merely providing a ride-hailing service; we are enabling livelihoods, fostering entrepreneurship, and giving people back control of their income and time.”
Through the Drop Me app, passengers can access safe, affordable, and convenient transport at transparent rates. The service ensures consistent availability, quality assurance, and rider safety standards — building trust between users and drivers alike.
At the event, Hon. Dr. Prasanna Gunasena, Deputy Minister of Transport and Highways, shared his appreciation:
“Local innovation is key to transforming our transport system. Platforms like Drop Me demonstrate how technology can be harnessed responsibly to uplift communities. I commend the team for creating a system that empowers drivers while providing passengers with reliable and affordable travel.”
Hon. Chathuranga Abeysinghe, Deputy Minister of Industry and Entrepreneurship Development, also highlighted the importance of supporting local ventures:
“Drop Me is an excellent example of Sri Lankan entrepreneurship and innovation. Such initiatives not only create opportunities but also strengthen local economies. I encourage more youth-led enterprises to follow this example.”
Professor Sarath Abeykoon, Governor of the Central Province, praised Drop Me’s contribution to digital transformation and economic growth, stating:
“This kind of innovation demonstrates how the Central Province can become a hub for technology and sustainable mobility. I am proud to see such initiatives emerging from within Sri Lanka.”
Meanwhile, Mr. Thusitha Wijayasena, Chairman of KCC, commended Drop Me’s partnership with the Kandy City Centre October Festival, noting that:
“Drop Me brings a new level of professionalism and integrity to the mobility sector. We are proud to have them as a partner during this event and look forward to seeing their continued growth across the country.”
Following the public launch in Kandy, Drop Me will begin rolling out its services across multiple districts, including Matale, Badulla, Ratnapura, Nuwara Eliya, Vavuniya, Trincomalee, Batticaloa, Mannar, Monaragala, Kilinochchi, Jaffna, Puttalam, and Kurunegala.
To facilitate this expansion, the company is appointing regional agents who will oversee operations, driver registration, and community engagement efforts within each area.
Drivers and passengers can now register through the officially downloading the Drop Me App from Google Play Store and App Store.
Drop Me’s digital ecosystem is designed to provide real-time GPS tracking, transparent fare calculation, secure payment options, and verified driver profiles — all while maintaining user privacy and safety.
Chairman M.S.A. Muneer emphasized that Drop Me’s long-term goal is not only to revolutionize transport but also to uplift thousands of Sri Lankan drivers and passengers by offering financial freedom, dignity, and opportunity.
“This launch marks the beginning of a journey,” said Mr. Muneer. “Drop Me is built by Sri Lankans, for Sri Lankans — a homegrown platform that reflects our values of trust, service, and innovation. We believe every journey matters, and every driver deserves to earn with respect.”
A Platform Built on Trust and Partnership
Drop Me differentiates itself through its subscription-based model, ensuring both affordability and sustainability. Drivers no longer lose a percentage of every ride; instead, they pay a fixed monthly fee, giving them complete control over their income.
For passengers, Drop Me provides predictable fares, safety assurance, and quick access to nearby rides — promoting convenience and confidence in local mobility.
The app also supports features such as driver ratings, service feedback, and direct communication between passengers and drivers, ensuring continuous service improvement.
During the public event at Kandy City Centre, attendees praised Drop Me’s modern approach and user-friendly technology. Several local drivers expressed enthusiasm for the new platform, highlighting the opportunity to work commission-free for the first time.
Drop Me aims to set a new standard in Sri Lankan mobility technology by creating an inclusive ecosystem where innovation meets opportunity.
Chairman M.S.A. Muneer envisions a future where every Sri Lankan city benefits from reliable, transparent, and sustainable transport — one that values both the driver’s hard work and the passenger’s comfort.
“We are not just launching an app,” he said. “We are building a platform of empowerment — where honesty, efficiency, and community thrive together.”
