Rs. 27.6 b to pay salaries for trainee graduates

The Finance Ministry has allocated Rs. 27.6 billion to pay salaries for the graduates who were recruited under a State employment program several months ago. Minister Basil Rajapaksa, reading his maiden Budget speech in Parliament on Friday said, “Steps will be taken to offer permanent appointments from January 2022 for over 53,000 graduates who were recruited to Government service as trainees.” It is expected that around Rs. 27,600 million will be necessary for this and the entire provision will be allocated from the Budget.

The Minister said Rs. 7,600 million will be pledged for this purpose in addition to the amount already allocated.
