Sri Lanka’s fastest growing telco, Airtel Sri Lanka, announced the successful
conclusion of the hotly anticipated ‘Airtel Smartphone Bonanza’ campaign, which culminated in 60 lucky
Airtel users entering the New Year with a brand new high value smartphone.
Coming at a time when importation of smartphones has reached a near stand-still in Sri Lanka, the
campaign was designed by Airtel to both support and reward the brand’s most loyal customers.
“While Airtel’s mission in Sri Lanka has always been centered on delivering maximum value to our
customers, this goal has taken on much greater significance over the past year, especially when
considering the rising cost and dependence that each of us has on smartphones, and the freedom
created by ready access to quality mobile internet.
“With the Airtel Smartphone Bonanza, we wanted to go above and beyond in showing our appreciation
for our most loyal customers. We take this opportunity to congratulate this year’s winners, and extend
our gratitude and best wishes to all our customers,” Airtel Sri Lanka MD/ CEO Ashish Chandra said.
The ‘Airtel Smartphone Bonanza’ was open to customers who recharged over Rs.300 on a day basis,
and winners were electronically picked at a random order, from a pool of eligible customers each
following day. Winners were announced weekly through the company’s Airtel Life social handles, and
the Airtel team directly reached out to the winners with congratulatory phone calls.
Airtel Lanka has been at the forefront of shifting the Sri Lankan telco sector towards greater
competition, and greater value for mobile users. Over the past two years, these efforts culminated in
the launch of Airtel’s market disrupting 4G Freedom Packs, and the increasingly popular Unlimited
Freedom packs, which were the very first in Sri Lanka to provide users with unlimited voice, and data
for popular social media apps, at a highly affordable price point. Similarly, Airtel remains the only telco in
Sri Lanka at present to offer data rollovers for its growing base of postpaid customers.
Airtel Lanka commenced commercial operations of services in Sri Lanka in 2009 and was the fastest
operator to reach 1 million customers. Registered under the Board of Investment in Sri Lanka, Airtel has
committed significant investments towards delivering an enhanced 4G experience leveraging state-of-
the-art infrastructure and a 5G-ready network to provide world-class mobile broadband experiences
island-wide.
